Electro Magnetism

• 	MAGNETIC NEEDLE, JEWEL BEARING

  	Card marked with points of compass and degrees, 125mm overall diameter, 80mm needle, in case.

• 	DEFLECTION MAGNETOMETER
  	Code:GP - 649.1
  	Comprising a stout bakelite box, 100mm dia, with aluminium dial graduated in degree 0-90 four times, anti parallax mirror slot and replaceable steel pivot. The short magnetic needle has a jewel bearing and a light aluminium pointer designed for precise reading and maximum damping. One metre long single piece wooden nicely polished base with embedded two half metre scale reading from the centre of compass box(Magnetometer) i.e. zero at centre of both the scales. Complete with compass box.

• 	MAGNETISING AND DEMAGNETISING SOLENOID

  	A helical coil 310mm long of DCC copper wire mounted on a wooden board, number of turns marked with 1 metre connecting cable, fuses, push switch compass and soft iron rod 350x10mm, internal dia of coil 25mm for use on 230V main supply.

• 	ELECTROMAGNET

  	Comprising soft iron U shaped core of circular section fitted with bobbins which are wound with copper wire. The limbs of the core are 100mm long and 16mm dia. The bobbins are connected together in such a way that the direction of the winding round of each pole is obvious. Terminals are provided as shown in illustration.

• 	DEMONSTRATION INDUCTION COILS OR INDUCED CURRENT APPARATUS

  	Two coils wound on separate bobbins, one having many turns of fine wire and the other with few turns of heavy wire. Demonstrate that induced potentials are produced either by movement of a permanent or electromagnet or by a change of current in one coil, fitted with insulated 4mm socket terminals and supplied with a soft iron core, outer coil is 12.5cm. long and 5cm dia.

• 	INDUCTION COIL

  	The primaries are wound with thicker copper enamelled covered wire on letherite pipe in two layers. The secondary coils are divided into two parts and are given heavy insulation, each layer is wound in the cover of butter paper and after completing the winding the entire is dipped into hot wax, so that each layer is sealed against moisture effect. The coils are housed in a teakwood base, voltage tested condensers are fitted inside the wooden polished base. Handles to get the spark are on it. The make and break points are of silver. One point is adjustable to get any cycle. On off reversing switch commutator, working on 6-12V D.C. spark in Air : Type Size .01 10mm .02 25mm .03 50mm .04 75mm .05 100mm

• DISSECTIBLE TRANSFORMER Code:GP - 673 This apparatus has been designed primarily for demonstration of the basic principles of the a.c. transformer. The various coils and cores will also serve as the basis of many experiments in electromagnetism, using either direct or alternating current. To this end, the number of turns, the direction of winding and the continuous maximum rated current are marked on each coil. In the basic transformer set all coils are fitted with 4mm socket connection, but 600-, and 1200-, turn coils are available (as accessories) fitted with shielded plugs for connection to the a.c. mains supply. All coils are of enamelled copper wire wound on high impact plastic moulded bobbins 75mm long with cheeks 75x60mm. The robust clamping base is provided with a tommy-bar screw to hold the ‘U’ core, and two knurled nuts to secure the armature and provide for easy changeover of the coils. Soft iron pieces are provided which locate on top of the ‘U’ core arms. One end of each pole piece is flat so that the pole pieces in situ provide a narrow gap with the full cross-sectional area, while the other end is in the form of a truncated cone giving a narrow concentrated field between the poles.
